Bmibaby Increases Operations to Belfast, Ends Flights to Manchester and Cardiff

Bmibaby is chopping off its services from Cardiff and Manchester Airports at the end of the summer 2011. The airline, known for offering affordable air tickets, currently operates 40 weekly flights from Manchester and 30 weekly flights from Cardiff to a number of destinations.

The carrier says that the present economic conditions force it to focus more on its established routes and those established routes apparently are Belfast, East Midlands and Birmingham where same aircrafts will be deployed which currently serve the Cardiff and Manchester airports.

A spokeswoman for bmibaby was quoted by news portals as stating, “In the current economic climate it is essential for bmibaby to focus on airports where the airline already has a strong market presence and where there are strong growth opportunities for the business.

The axing of the Cardiff and Manchester flights will surely affect the budget passengers who used to travel with the airline for its cheap flights. Bmibaby is indeed a popular airline that is renowned for offering tickets on its cheap flights. However, Cardiff’s and Manchester’s loss is Belfast’s gain as bmibaby has launched new flights from Belfast to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro and Ibiza for summer 2012, in addition to a new year-round service to Amsterdam from October 31, and flights to Geneva from December 17. Tickets for these new routes are up for grabs!

Julian Carr, Managing Director of bmibaby, was quoted by online sources as stating, "Bmibaby will be the only low-cost airline to operate the new routes directly from Belfast City Airport, and this will make getting away for a sunshine, ski or city break more accessible from Northern Ireland."
