As per the agreement with Thai Airways, the Turkish Airlines’ flyers booking flights to Bangkok will have better connections on Thai Airways-operated flights to Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Auckland and Kuala Lumpur. Moreover, a similar agreement will be applied to Hong Kong to provide flights between Bangkok and Hong Kong on TK coded flights to the Turkish Airlines’ flyers.
The Turkish airlines will enjoy an expanded reach - flights to Bangkok from its hub airport in Istanbul and further linking to cities in Australia, so far offline network points for the airline.
Though, both full-service and star alliance member airlines may not be popular for cheap flight tickets, the codeshare will lend a wider choice to travellers planning to travel on the routes which are part of the codeshare. However, those looking to book tickets on cheap flight can expect to benefit as any such codeshare spells increased competition on the partnered routes.
In another strategic move, Turkish Airlines has signed a codeshare agreement with Brazil’s TAM Airlines; a move that will boost the choices for holiday destinations for flyers planning to travel between South America and Europe.
Once this agreement gets the green signal, the TAM Airlines’ flyers will be able to take direct flights between São Paulo and Istanbul in a Turkish Airlines operated flight. Turkish Airlines’ customers will be able to book tickets to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Porto Alegre and Foz do Iguaçu; and Buenos Aires in Argentina on flights operated by TAM Airlines.
