Travellers planning to fly on long haul destinations like US and Canada from India with Air India will enjoy their ride on the highly fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Air India has decided to replace its fuel guzzling Boeing 777s operating on these routes with more fuel efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline is planning to lease out some of its B777s to private operators to save on its fuel costs and restructure its international operations after getting the delivery of its much-awaited 787 Dreamliner.
The flag carrier of the country, Air India stays on the preference list of many travellers taking tickets on inbound and outbound flights to India. The airline contributes a major share in the India's domestic air travel market.
However, the airline has been struggling for a while now. In order to cut down on fuel costs, Air India has been planning to replace Boeing 777s with some fuel-efficient aircraft like the 787s. However, the plans could not materialise due to delays in the delivery of 787s.
A sort of phenomenon in the aviation industry, Boeing 787 is made out of composite materials and features advanced technologies. The aircraft is considered to be 20% more fuel-efficient that any other aircraft.
Optimist budget travellers would hope the fuel efficiency factor of Boeing 787 will perhaps bring down the fuel costs of Air India and the airline might bring down its airfares by offering inbound and outbound cheap flights to India.
Once Air India gets the clearance, the airline will induct around three Boeing 787 within June or July.
