The west Indian state of Gujarat is to begin hosting a larger range of sporting events in order to attract more tourists.
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said the state would be holding the "maximum" number of events possible in order to boost "sport tourism" in the region, the Press Trust of India reports.
"Sports is very important for human beings. We cannot imagine a society without sportsman spirit. Sports is one of the biggest industries, with business running into trillions of dollars," he explained at the launch of the 29th Sub-Junior National Aquatic Championships at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Municipal Swimming Pool.
