British passport gets an update

Those Brits taking flights to India and other countries will soon be using a newly designed British passport.

It is hoped that the new passport will prove harder to copy and provide better security for travellers. A major change is the introduction of a number of picture book images of traditional British landmarks including Ben Nevis, the Giant's Causeway and the White Cliffs of Dover.

Sarah Rapson, chief executive of the Identity and Passport Service, said: "We've deliberately chosen scenic Britain, the images you're seeing are representative of that aspect of Britain."

Other changes include the moving of the picture and personal details to the front of the passport to bring it in to line with other European countries.
