AirAsia X Scraps Flights to Europe and India

AirAsia X could take it no more! Yes, the popular low cost airline has decided to bring its services to Europe and India to an end!

In what may seem like a big blow to travellers who seek cheap flight tickets to Malaysia from regions like Europe and India, AirAsia X said it will cease it operations to London Gatwick and Paris in Europe and Delhi and Mumbai in India.

The airline cited reasons such as sluggish demand and rising cost of operations for taking this extreme step.

The move will see the long haul budget airline withdrawing flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Paris and London from its Kuala Lumpur hub as follows:

  • Mumbai- Four weekly services will be shelved (last flight on 31 January)
  • New Delhi- Daily services will be suspended (last flight on 22 March). Flights to Delhi to be trimmed down to four in a week in March.
  • London- Six weekly services will be terminated (last flight on 31 March)
  • Paris- Four weekly services will be cancelled (last flight on 30 March)
AirAsia X said rising taxes in Europe made it tough for the carrier to provide cheap flight tickets for the passengers.

Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X said prevailing economic situation as well as excessive government taxes is making it unfeasible to operate long-haul low cost flights between Asia and Europe.

Visa restrictions, increase in costs at airports and baggage handling charges are the reasons that made the airline stop flights to Delhi and Mumbai.

The airline promised to offer alternative travel options to travellers affected by the move.
