Travel Tips for Commonwealth Games 2010

Delhi is all set to explode in a frenzy of excitement when the Commonwealth Games set the city on fire. The government of India has poured in billions to spruce up the city for this mega event. Right from new flyovers and an extended metro rail network to more modern taxis and buses, development is being carried out on a war footing.

The Delhi International Airport’s sprawling, world class Terminal 3 has already started functioning. A major highlight of this gargantuan expansion is the construction of the Commonwealth Games Village on the banks of the River Yamuna near the iconic Akshardham Temple.

Commonwealth Games to highlight India

The forthcoming Commonwealth Games could provide an ideal opportunity for people to enjoy cheap flights to India.

Starting on October 3rd, the Games will begin with a special opening ceremony and will see some of the world's leading sportspeople take part in a number of events. According to a travel expert, it could also be the perfect time for people to discover India for the first time. Sam Walker believes that the main venue of Delhi offers a mix of old and new attractions such as the Lodhi Gardens and Humayun's Tomb.

However, he also suggested that Delhi can provide an ideal base for exploring more of the country. In particular, the so-called triangle tour of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur would allow travellers to experience the Taj Mahal as well as the deserts of Rajasthan.
