Travellers 'should seek locals' advice'

Anyone who has booked their summer holidays to a country that they have never visited before should ask locals for advice about the best places to visit.

Simon Calder, travel editor at the Independent, explained that people should avoid relying solely on the internet for advice about a destination. "People should be far more focused on seeking locals' advice. [...] The first rule of any traveller is to ask and if you do that people are generally very happy to help you," he stated.

His comments could be particularly useful for anyone who is preparing to board flights to South Africa ahead of the World Cup.
