Boeing 787 Dreamliner Lands at Hong Kong on Inaugural Flight

The wait is over! Boeing’s much awaited and much delayed 787 Dreamliner finally took off from Tokyo's Narita International Airport on Wednesday late afternoon and landed in Hong Kong four hours later.

It triggered off celebrations in Tokyo as well as in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, the All Nippon Airways (ANA) Flight NH7871 was greeted with wonderful music and dance performances. The world’s first charter passenger flight of Boeing 787 Dreamliner indeed took a long time coming. The flight was supposed to take off some three years ago!! No wonder apprehensions were running high at All Nippon Airways’ offices!

It was an event that received huge media coverage around the world. Several journalists were on-board the historic flight that landed at Hong Kong. A lottery was held to determine passengers who would be offered a chance to buy air tickets for the flight. Boeing and ANA executives also boarded the 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner is billed as the world’s most fuel-efficient aircraft. It is also believed to be 30% cheaper to maintain. This means those budget travellers who seek cheap tickets on long haul flights will have a better chance to net the same as the airlines are more likely to offer cheap flight tickets when their operational costs are low.

Not surprisingly, carriers like Japan Airlines, United Continental, Air China, British Airways and Delta Air Lines have placed their orders for the Dreamliner.

Apart from fuel efficiency, Boeing 787 also promises better travel experience with larger windows, improved lighting and other features.
