India May Soon Host FIM World Motocross Championship

Foreign tourists who are often to be seen in a lookout for flights to India for trips to Goa will be able to enjoy adrenaline pumping racing event as the destination is all set to host FIM World Motocross championship in few years from now.

India’s premier beach destination, Goa is looking forward to host the popular event in a bid to boost the number of tourists on international flights to India. This two-wheeler racing sport is conducted on confined off-roads and in four different categories — 450cc, 250cc, 650cc and open category for women.

A delegation from Indian state recently visited Matterley Basin, the historic venue of Motocross, to meet the promoters of the championship and officials of FIM to get their consent to host the races in the India.

Experts believe that if everything falls in place, Goa may soon become a popular hub for not only beach lovers but also for sports freaks spending on flights tickets to witness the adrenaline pumping world championship event. Tourism officials would hope that after the roaring success of the Formula 1 event that registered surging passenger traffic on flights to Delhi, Goa would propel the demand for flights to India amongst sports fans.

Over the last few decades, Goa’s sports tourism has been all about water sports - windsurfing, water-skiing, parasailing and the likes. However, the FIM Motocross World Championship may become the next big thing in terms of sports tourism for those on flights to the country!
