Kingfisher’s Flight Cancellations - Travellers Left in Lurch
Problems keeps on mounting for Kingfisher Airlines and more so for travellers! Indian carrier, Kingfisher Airlines has grounded more than 30 flights on Thursday, 10th Nov.
The cash-strapped airline has cancelled flights for fourth consecutive day now, making it really hard for travellers all over the country. Airports witnessed scenes of utter chaos as passengers moved from pillar to pillar to gather some sort of reliable information in regards to their flights.
Budget travellers who book tickets in advance to net cheap flight tickets were perhaps the most disappointed lot as flight after flight failed to take off from different parts of the country.
There is no respite for Kingfisher Airlines as reports of more than 30 pilots and crew members of not reporting for duty in the past few days do the rounds. A section of Indian media also claims that some 100 pilots had quit the airline in past few weeks.
To add to the woes of the carrier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sent a show-cause notice to Kingfisher as to why the airline had not taken the regulator's prior approval before cancelling its flights. The DGCA has also asked the Indian carrier to furnish information as regards to steps taken by the airline to take care of the passengers affected by flight cancellations.
Flight cancellations have also triggered off a surge in air fares on popular routes. Cheap flight tickets are hard to come by for travellers in the current scenario.
Travellers are compelled to rebook on other airlines paying a premium of 20-40 per cent at the last moment.

Qantas Airways Acts ‘Santa’, Give Out Free Flight Tickets
Christmas has come early for travellers who were left stranded by Qantas’ grounding late last month!
That’s right, after pain comes pleasure, and after travel disruptions come free air tickets! Well at least this is what Australia’s flag carrier believes in!
Forget free tickets, Qantas is normally miles away from even cheap flight tickets but the Australian airline knows that the last few months haven’t been exactly a good PR exercise for the company. Industrial action, delayed flights and then finally grounding of entire fleet is not what we call ‘brand building measures.’ Therefore the airline is all set to provide free flight tickets to the affected travellers. This is seen as the airline’s desperate bid to attract customers.
A free return economy flight within Australia or to New Zealand over a two-year period from Dec. 14 will be offered. While this announcement largely caters to regional travellers, a new announcement targeting overseas customers and frequent fliers is expected soon. It remains to be seen what ‘Santa Qantas’ brings for them. While free flights remain improbable, cheap flight tickets and other travel related incentives are expected.
Alan Joyce, Qantas Chief Executive Officer, said this is the airline’s way of saying “sorry”. It sure is an expensive ‘sorry’ as reports are doing the rounds that the move might cost Qantas as much as A$20 million.
Meanwhile, Qantas Airways met union members on Monday to start off the negotiation process. This was the first meeting of the two warring parties after the Australian carrier grounded its entire fleet.

'Scoot' Is the Reason to Smile for Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines, which was long relying on its top-spot in the long-haul first and business class market in the Asia to Europe routes and has finally found a reason to ‘Scoot’ around.
Singapore Airlines hopes to gain solid grounds in the burgeoning no-frills air travel market with the advent of its wholly owned subsidiary, Scoot. The airline might kick-start its services by June 2012. Scoot plans to operate four Boeing 777-200 jets by the end of next year.
Initially, the airline might route flights to five to ten hour destinations from the Changi International Airport. As per reports, the airline might start cheap flights to four or more cities in China and Australia.
Campbell Wilson, CEO of Scoot informed that the new long-haul budget market was rapidly germinating and Scoot hopes to increase the business for Singapore Airlines.
Wilson was also reported as informing that Scoot will initially offer two cabin classes, with approximately 40 percent cheaper tickets as compared to other premium airline’s tickets. Also the customers would be enabled to choose seats, meals and baggage options.
Additionally, Scoot also plans to offer various customized options to the budget travellers to offer a delightful flying experience.
Scoot plans to buy several Boeing 777-200ER planes to route regular flights to European and African destinations. The airline’s plans further include hiring 52 pilots, 250 flight attendants and 40 ground staff next year.
However, the new carrier might face challenges from Air Asia X and JetStar which already operate cheap flights in the region.
Analysts expect Scoot to add extra frills to beat the challenge.

New Zealand As An Adventure Oasis
I have been to places far and wide, long and short, and ugly and beautiful. I have experienced the spiritual morning of Haridwar, India. I have shaken a leg at the glitzy Cape Town discothèque. And I have enjoyed (albeit from a distance) the coquettish charms of a Bangkok ladyboy.
Few weeks ago I had the good fortune to revel in the beautiful glory of New Zealand – in my opinion the most naturally attractive place on earth! But look beyond the natural marvels (not easy, I admit) and you will find New Zealand to be an extremely fun and adventure destination.
Given the remote location of the country, it has to be said that cheap flights tickets to New Zealand are not exactly aplenty but once you manage to get cheap airfares on flights to New Zealand (check out different travel websites for airlines offering cheap flights), you be ushered into an adventure land of infinite charms and countless trappings. The country is the mecca of extreme sports.
Be it paragliding, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, climbing, sailing, paragliding or skydiving – New Zealand holidays spell a time of lifetime for adrenalin junkies. But it is the bungee jumping that seems to have blurred the fine line between adventure travellers and regular leisure holiday makers! Really, bungee jumping does appear to be the fad of the decade with almost everyone who visits New Zealand ending up upside down. Yours truly too tried out the ‘death-defying’ stunt and let me just wrap up by saying this, next time I go for bungee jumping I am not going to eat anything at least for a day prior the feat!

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia Join Hands
Days are not far when those who fly frequently with either Singapore Airlines or Virgin Australia will see a trail of benefits coming their way. The two carriers have signed a codeshare agreement! The agreement takes effect from 1st August 2011 after it gets approved by relevant authorities.
Codeshare agreements are common amongst airlines that seek to have a better penetration across the distant destinations or aim to tap the untapped market. However the players involved here may cause few competitors in the region some lack of sleep! Who doesn’t know about Qantas-Virgin rivalry!
It is certain that the passengers will reap the benefits from this alliance. Even those frequent flyers who might have dismissed these airlines in the past for not selling cheap flight tickets may not mind heading to their booking counter, given the host of benefits and comforts available now!
If not cheap flights, the passengers benefit from the following:
Reciprocal Frequent Flyer Programmes – The frequent flyers members of Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer can earn and redeem the miles flown on Virgin Australia. Similarly, members of Velocity, Virgin Australia loyalty program, can earn and cash-in the miles flown on Singapore Airlines operated flights.

How to Find Cheap Flights to India from UK
The exotic land of India comes to mind as one contemplates to spend a rejuvenating vacation in a enticing destination without paying a bomb on airfares. Flights to India are pretty cheap and so are the hotels. What else do you want if you are planning a quick getaway?
Spending a rejuvenating vacation in an exotic land without paying a bomb on airfares is the coveted dream of many. One such destination, which immediately comes to mind is India. After all, the country has every ingredient for a fulfilling vacation, be it some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, stunningly mountain destinations, scores of wildlife parks teeming with rare wildlife, and cities showcasing rich slices of history. One of the best things about an Indian vacation is the bewildering array of cheap flights to choose from. One simply needs to know where and how to look.
In case, you are banking upon travel agents, then get in touch with one of the big respected names like Southalltravel.co.uk. Specifically, tell the agent that you are looking for the lowest possible fare as quite often there are specials that are not classified under economy.
Similarly, while making Internet bookings, you may come across a test price, average price or lowest price. One needs to make as many comparisons as possible among the different offers. To ensure a safe position, it is prudent to make an early booking of a deal, which offers the best value and is completely refundable. After that one can always hunt for better deals.
Sometimes, a good price may be available on the main leg of the flight, but it could be high on the connect. In such a scenario, the search should be reversed, or different legs should be booked separately. A minimum of three hours should be allowed between the flights for international departures/changeovers.
The best discount is often to be found at the website of the airlines. In certain scenarios, people need to sign up with an airline. In return, the carrier emails special offers a few days before the take off date. Such offers are highly restricted, but extremely cheap.
One may also try out some unconventional options like bumping, charter flights, ethnic bucket shops, foreign bucket shops, and courier flying. All in all, there is absolutely no dearth of choice of cheap flights to India.

Latest UK Airports and Flights Information
A slight improvement in the weather conditions of Europe has resulted in the resumption of flights from different airports. So far, hundreds of passengers have faced inconveniences, especially at London Heathrow Airport.
In what spells as a tremendous relief for air ticket holders in the UK, airlines are slowly but steadily on the way to resume services. Normal operations have been reported at Manchester, Stansted, Luton and London City airports. The last week led to the grounding of hundreds of flights to and from the UK owing to immense snowfalls. However, a let up in the situation facilitated different airports as well as other transport hubs in clearing up part of the accumulated backlog of passengers. Here is a little detailed information on the latest developments.
London Heathrow Airport
The British Airports Authority announced that London Heathrow would now operate to its full capacity. A number of flights that had been diverted earlier have now been rescheduled to fly from Heathrow as planned earlier. To cite an example, the Etihad flights EY017 and EY018, will take off from Heathrow as per initial schedule and will not be diverted to Manchester. Etihad also announced a refund of travel expenditure for passengers who had fixed travel plans to Manchester. The refund would be according to the terms and conditions of the airline. However, like other airports, London Heathrow has also advised passengers to travel to the airport only if their flights are confirmed by their airlines.
The Heathrow Airport is known for serving not only numerous international and regional full service airlines, but also a high volume of budget carriers offering cheap flights to different parts of the world.
Gatwick Airport
Thanks to the laborious efforts of the cleaning crew, the Gatwick Airport also resumed services from Tuesday. However, passengers have been warned of knock-on delays due to heavy snowfall covering many parts of Northern Europe.
Scotland
As per reports trickling in, the snow has been cleared away from the Edinburgh and Glasgow airports. However, passengers need to be prepared for inevitable cancellations and delays. These delays are plaguing Aberdeen as well.
British Airways’ Loss
British Airways is perhaps the hardest hit airline due to the snow. According to analysts, the airline has been suffering losses to the tune of £8m to £10m. However, the airline announced the confirmation of its schedules for today, 22nd December and that the schedules for 23rd and 24th December will be confirmed as soon as they are finalised. This means, people who had booked advance tickets with British Airways in the hopes of netting cheap flights, still stand the chance of utilising their tickets.
British Airports Authority (BAA) faces criticism
British Airports Authority has been under fire for failing to handle the snowfall at London Heathrow Airport. In fact, many quarters have demanded a probe into BAA’s response to the situation. The call for probe has also been backed by the Association of British Travel Agents.

Cheap Flights Offers and Booking
Planning a trip to India....how about getting your air tickets at a fraction of the published rate?
Sounds far fetched? It's actually possible if a bit of planning and foresight goes into firming up your travel plans. To get rock-bottom fares you need to book your tickets at least six months in advance. As the scheduled date of departure draws near travel agents typically begin to charge higher for the same flights that too if they happen to coincide on holidays, festivals or national events.
Since most airlines release fresh fares on Wednesday and Saturday mornings chances are that you might get the best rates on both these days. Ensure that you always book return tickets from the same airline as one way tickets typically cost more. Getting the lowest fares also means compromising on the airports which you might use while embarking or disembarking from the aircrafts. The savings which the airlines make on airport fees are passed on to consumers making it a win-win situation for both. You and your family need to be less finicky about the choice of the airports.
No-frill airlines are the default choice amongst budget travellers, however the heavily discounted fares offered by them come with riders. Modifying the dates of your trip on such airlines can be a very expensive affair. No frills or Low-cost airlines typically have prohibitive cancellation and date-change charges which might hamper your flexibility while on a tour.
If you are travelling on a shoe-string budget then scheduling your arrival and departure flights to India on week days will be a good idea. You need to be a little net savvy if you are frequent flier and make internet your best money saving tool.
One can find numerous flight search engines which will retrieve information from all available airlines databases and comes up with the most economical flights options. All you need to do is to enter your flight details, arrival/departure dates, choice of airport and press the search button. The good news is that these online flight search tools even include the database of all low cost airlines offering you even more money saving options.
